Is laughter the best medicine?

Laughter is the Best Medicine or so the old saying goes, but is it true?

Laughter is something we may all be going short on these days, we have a cost-of-living crisis, high energy costs, demands on our time from our employer, colleagues family and friends, we may be forgetting to look after ourselves.

We recommend that you take just a few moments out of your day to find a way to amuse yourself, maybe find a funny video on platforms such as YouTube or Tick-Tok, or enjoy some good company on your lunch.

Laughter has many great affects on our wellness:

Laughter can help our physical and emotional changes in the body. Laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts mood, diminishes pain, and protects you from the damaging effects of stress. (Sounds like a positive to me)!

Laughter can help diminish anger allow you to forgive sooner, has a lightening effect on our daily burdens, can inspire you to move forward and connect better will friends, family, and work colleagues.

Laughter is good for your health it will relax your body and leave your muscles relaxed for a considerable period of time, after the humour episode, Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.

Laughter protects the heart it improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

And lastly if you are still on that new year diet and exercise kick remember this little-known fact laughing for 10-15 minutes a day will burn on average 40 calories, that’s helping to lose up to four pounds a year, and as a certain well known supermarket chain reminds us “every little helps.”

So go on watch that clip or tell that joke, it just might make your day a little brighter and happier.
