Changes to the Fire Safety Legislation..

The new fire safety legislation that came into effect on October 1st, 2023 brings about some important changes aimed at improving fire safety in buildings. One of the key changes is that now all businesses, regardless of their size, sector, and number of employees, are required to record a fire risk assessment and fire safety arrangements in full. This means taking a careful look at your premises and the people who use them to understand potential risks and improve fire safety precautions accordingly.

Cooperation between Responsible Persons in multi-occupied buildings is also given increased emphasis under the new legislation. It's important for those responsible for a building, such as employers, owners, or occupiers, to ensure that a suitably competent person completes a Fire Risk Assessment. The Responsible Person must record all findings from the assessment, regardless of the size or purpose of the premises. This recording requirement is a new addition since October 1st, 2023.

Regularly reviewing the risk assessment and making updates whenever there are significant changes is not only a legal requirement but also a smart business practice. Fire prevention is crucial because businesses often struggle to recover from a fire incident. It's essential to prioritise fire safety to protect lives, fulfils legal obligations, and safeguard the future of your business.
